How To Stop Worrying & Start Living Happily

In this current economic crisis, pandemic and series of lockdowns that are facing the global communities, it is so important to take a moment to refocus our minds to protect both our mental, emotional and physical health

Oftentimes, the victims of the compounded effects of these ongoing challenges, are the ordinary citizens and the vulnerables in the society, who do not belong to the ruling elites.
Staying mentally and emotionally strong, when many people are losing their minds, or battling with mental and physical health, requires a different mindset and mental attitude.
This brings to mind this amazing quote from my favourite book;

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?.”

My take from that quote is that worry, anxiety, fear and being stressful can never change anyone’s circumstances, but would rather lead to the dark path of depression, poor mental and physical health.

From a neurological point of view, there are hormones in our brain associated with positive and negative emotions.
Hormones of stress can be triggered by negative emotions such as anger, fears, anxiety, insecurity, and so on.
Likewise, hormones of happiness can be evoked by positive emotions. Dopamine is a hormone associated with happiness and serotonin regulates our mood.

The correlation between the human emotions and their hormones, was first recorded in the book of Proverbs over 2000 years ago;
“A joyful, cheerful heart brings healing to both body and soul. But the one whose heart is crushed struggles with sickness and depression (Proverbs 17:22).”
Neurological studies have found that hormones of stress can chemically change our bodies and even suppress the immune system.
Emotions are simply energy in motion. Energy is frequency and all frequencies carry information that can be transmitted and received by wireless devices, which are configured to respond to specific frequency spectrum.

Likewise, as humans we are always sending and receiving information based on our personal self-talk, thoughts and feelings.
This means that the internal dialogue that goes on within your mind, can evoke emotions to create hormones of stress, which can suppress your immune system, and leave the body vulnerable to disease.
Likewise, your mind can also evoke emotions to create hormone of happiness, which improves both your mental, physical health and wellness
Therefore, your thought patterns become emotional patterns, and the emotional patterns create behavioural patterns.
This is why the book of Proverbs says, “As man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”

This means that you can improve your emotional and mental health, overcome fear, anxiety, and live a happier life by intentionally filtering the type of information you focus your mind on; because that information becomes your dominant thoughts and self-talk.
It is only when you become intentional that your desired results will begin to change, because change is a process that starts with what you feed your mind continuously (dominant thought pattern), and the words you say to yourself (positive or negative self-talk).
If your thought patterns and self-talk have been very negative, you can shift that inner dialogue to become a more positive person, by learning new processes that can improve your emotional and mental health.

A wise man once said, “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”
Therefore, before you can master the habit of positive self-talk and thinking, you must unlearn the old habits by first identifying your negative thought patterns and self-talk.
I called this process Mindset Optimisation; to help you develop new information-processing skills, emotional and thought management skills.
