I hope your week has been productive and you are looking forward to a good weekend.
✍️In today’s episode, I want to share a few thoughts with you based on my recent reflections on the realities of life.
✍️I would like to start with this question, ”What is the cost of a smile?”
It has been observed from research that it takes more effort to frown than to smile, because smiling requires only 17 muscles but frowning requires about 43 muscles.
✍️Do you know that a few pleasant words with a cheerful smile can save life by transforming negative emotions into positive emotions and rekindling someone’s hope, and determination to forge ahead when the times are tough?
📌The book of Proverbs says, ”Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”
📌“Learn to light a candle in the darkest moments of someone’s life. Be the light that helps others see; it is what gives life its deepest significance.” ― Roy T. Bennett
📌“A word of encouragement is worth more than a whole book of praises when victory is won.”

✍️This brings me to my main point; It is very convenient as well as shocking that as a society we have mastered the art of celebrating and eulogising people when they are dead, instead of when they are still alive.
If you look back in history, you will discover that the majority of the people we celebrate today as heroes and extraordinary personalities were once labelled as controversial, nonconformist, and in some cases maligned and destroyed by their haters.
✍️Some of such people include Nicolas Tesla, Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King Jr, Albert Einstein, and Walt Disney was fired from a job for lack of creativity. However, the most controversial of them all was Jesus Christ, who was persecuted and crucified by the same people He came to save. However, today He is celebrated as the King of kings and Lord of lords.
✍️This brings me to my next, human beings are creatures of habit, and it takes self-awareness and intentionality to unlearn the bad habits and master empowering habits.
For instance, it is quite common for some people to magnify the perceived weakness of their colleagues, but such people will never give a compliment or celebrate other people’s achievements.
However, in the words of the former American President Theodore Roosevelt, “It is not the critic who counts: not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again because there is no effort without error or shortcoming,…”
“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.” –Mark Twain
✍️This brings me to my final point; as a leader whenever you smile, compliment and encourage your team, you invariably empower them for more productivity and wins.
This attitude is a priceless and valuable gift that can positively change the emotional state and boost the performance of any team, similar to the same way a thermostat can change and control the temperature of the environment.
✍️Likewise, discouragement, fear, negativism and manipulation are counter-productive and have a negative impact on the health and general well-being of any individual or team.
This was the case during the pandemic when leaders of certain nations and various global organisations resorted to intimidation, manipulation, fear-mongering and the use of draconian laws to control public opinions and force people into submission.
✍️In conclusion, I urge you to make time and reach out to someone today and celebrate them for what you admire most about them.
Don’t wait until tomorrow, because tomorrow might be too late to express your gratitude and put a smile on someone’s face.
