In today’s conversation, I want to share some of my personal reflections on the global issues influencing and shaping our lives and how you can design your life to become the Winner instead of the Victim in the Digital Age.
✍️In a world that is constantly being influenced by diverse Global Transformations ranging from geopolitical issues, conflicts, technological disruptions, climate change, disasters, terrorism to various man-made crisis. Human beings have continued to seek solutions to address and navigate these obstacles and challenges of life throughout the evolution of mankind.
✍️The wisest and the wealthiest man that has ever lived, King Solomon expressed his view on the foregoing with this statement, “There is nothing new under the sun..”🔆
I believe that this statement is still applicable today as it was over 2000 years ago in the era of King Solomon.
✍️However, the only thing that will continue to change is our collective abilities to leverage advanced problem-solving skills, creative mindset and innovative technology to gain mastery over the circumstances of life and control our environments sustainably in comparison to the ages past.
✍️This brings me to the next point, the human mind plays a significant role in empowering us to visualise, and create solutions to overcome our limitations and sustainably transform the environment for the good of humanity.
✍️My favourite book says, “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
This statement reflects a Dominion Mandate given by the Creator to empower humanity with the mandate to rule the world and dominate the environment, but not to dominate other humans or destroy the environment.
However, throughout history many leaders of nations and organisations have tried to exploit and control other people and their resources through various forms of warfare, manipulation and colonisation including slavery, military invasion, psychological, religious and technological warfares and the weaponisation of poverty.
These negative actions violate the Dominion Mandate, human rights and dignities.
✍️This brings me to my main point; Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created a new era of business, cultural, religious, economical, and technological disruptions. The key drive for this, is the race for Dominion and Control in the Digital Age, as many nations and tech companies continue to invest billions and trillions in AI in order to win the Digital Race.
However, despite the valuable applications of AI, if it is not positively deployed for the collective benefits of humanity, then the emerging technologies can create colonies of Masters and Slaves by empowering only few individuals (Masters of new empires) and disempowering many people (Slaves of digital disruption) in the digital age.
Furthermore, in the absence of ethical regulatory frameworks; the Digital Race will no doubt lead to Digital Colonisation instead of Democratisation, as the winners of the race scramble for the control of digital colonies.
✍️ This brings me to my next point; to understand the ongoing Digital Race, you have to observe the investments and intense competition among nations, corporations, and even individuals to achieve technological superiority, particularly in the areas of AI, data centers, big data analysis, IoT, cloud computing and Blockchain technology. In the long-term the “Winners” will be those who develop and control the most advanced and widely adopted digital technologies.
In an ideal scenario, the adoption of digital technology especially AI, would empower individuals, businesses and nations, as well as foster collective economic growth and prosperity 📈
However, imagine a scenario when the Winners of the digital race use their Technological Dominance to exert control over other nations and their populations, giving rise to Digital Colonization and Exploitation. This control could manifest in several ways:
📌Data Exploitation: Unethical collection and monetization of vast amounts of data from various regions (Digital Colonies). This will give the Winners unfair global economic and political leverage. Moreover, in the digital age, Data is the New Currency.
📌Job Losses and Economic Dependence: This is already becoming a reality with many people lossing their jobs due to the disruptive effects of AI driven business process systemisation and automation. Also nations that are heavily reliant on the digital services and products of dominant tech companies could find their own industries stifled and their economies hijacked by external forces.
📌Infrastructure Control: Controlling critical digital infrastructure (e.g., smart grids, satellite networks, cloud storage and financial platforms) could allow dominant entities to dictate the terms of access, censor information, or even disrupt services.
📌Algorithmic Governance: The algorithms developed by dominant tech entities could subtly or overtly influence public opinion, economic decisions, and social behavior in many countries, essentially shaping these societies into digital colonies.
📌Culture Shaping: The pervasive influence of dominant digital platforms and their content publication, whilst blocking the local contents, could lead to the erosion of local cultures, societal values and the spread of selective narratives for culture shaping and control.
✍️This brings me to my final point; How are you going to future-proof yourself, family, business and careers from the negative disruptive effects of AI?
In my opinion, the main solution is to become a Lifelong Learner by continuously learning, up skilling and developing a creative mindset by intensionally engaging in activities that enhance your personal and professional growth, adapting to change, and remaining relevant in a dynamic and disruptive digital age.
So many people and businesses are going to become victims and slaves of technological disruption and dispossession, if they don’t adopt the principle of lifelong learning by leveraging AI and emerging technologies to their advantage.
And by so doing turn their setbacks into opportunities to bounce back bigger and better.
